Project Spotlight: Tarleton State University Football Stadium

by Joseph Vela, Senior Mechanical Engineer

JonesDBR worked with architecture firm Huckabee to provide MEP services for Tarleton’s Memorial Stadium located in Stephenville, Texas. The expansion increased the seating capacity to more than 9,000 spectators.

The visitor’s side was converted into the home side and was named the Lonn Reisman Athletic Center in honor of the university’s athletic director. Renovations also included an expanded press box and suites, additional premium seating with chair backs, expanded entrances and ticket booths, and improved concession and other facilities. A 66′ 1″ x 22′ 1″ HD Video Board was installed in the south end zone.

The majority of the 3-story, 37,000 square foot stadium is served by variable refrigerant flow (VRF) systems with heat recovery for further energy savings.  Dedicated outside air handling units were provided to pretreat the outside air to the Suites and Pressbox VRF indoor units for enhanced humidity control.  The Stadium Club Hospitality is served by high-efficiency packaged rooftop units with economizer and demand control ventilation.  A domestic water pump, fire pump, and jockey pump were provided to meet the building demands.  LED lighting was provided throughout the stadium with daylighting, dimming, and occupancy lighting controls in areas required by the energy code.

The football field and track & field surfaces were replaced as part of the project.
