JonesDBR worked with ROFA Architects on the design for South Texas College’s new Health Professions and Sciences Building at the South Texas College – Mid Valley Campus which includes 77,573 square feet of state-of-the-art of classrooms and laboratories. The two-level building houses the nursing and health science programs, with labs occupying the second floor.
The building includes an Energy Monitoring and Control System and is served by chilled water cooling and electric heat with multiple variable air volume air handling units. Hot water is provided by an electric hot water boiler system. The boiler includes a dedicated primary hot water circulation pump. A variable volume, secondary hot water pump will provide hot water throughout the building.
The electrical scope included the complete design and construction for all electrical systems and infrastructure for security systems, telecommunications systems, and fire alarm/mass notification systems. These systems include primary electrical service, secondary electrical power distribution, general building power, lighting, and controls. The central thermal plant design includes a 100 kVA generator.
Plumbing systems in the laboratory spaces included were acid waste and vent piping, domestic water and distilled water systems, compressed air, and vacuum systems. Safety measures such as automatic controls for laboratory utilities were provided.
