Project Spotlight: Texas A&M University – RELLIS Agriculture & Workforce Education Complex

by Huga Avila, PE, Project Manager

JonesDBR is pleased to be working with PBK Architecture on the design for the Texas A&M University – RELLIS Agriculture & Workforce Education Complex located in College Station, Texas.

The new RELLIS facility was developed from a partnership between Texas A&M University System and Blinn College District. RELLIS Agriculture and Workforce Education Complex. This 43,000 square foot facility will allow for the expansion of Blinn’s workforce education programs, including high-demand skilled trades such as electrical, plumbing, HVAC, welding, and CNC machining training. The educational delivery process will infuse STEM principles within hands-on, skills-based learning activities. The goal is that more high school students enter vocational or workforce education programs after graduation better prepared for a career in a specialized professional/skilled trade.

Classroom HVAC utilizes efficient fan-powered terminal units for enhanced cooling performance. Other mechanical design features include a welding exhaust system for 36 welding stations incorporating custom welding booths with effective exhaust air management for maximum user protection. Besides incorporating energy-efficient LED lighting, the DBR team incorporated smart lighting control systems for effective energy usage and realized long term savings for Texas A&M. These lighting controls play an important role not only in the classrooms but in the trades buildings as well. The project is designed towards LEED Silver.
